A Student Facility Attendant employed with Penn State Campus Recreation is responsible for the overall health, safety and welfare of those using Campus Recreation facilities. Under direction of the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations, Coordinator for Facilities and Operations, and Student Building Supervisor, the Facility Attendant acts as the attendant on duty during operational hours and is considered an extension of the facility management.
A Facility Attendant's job duties include:
* Create the "First Impression" for the Campus Recreation facilities.
* Open and close program areas within Campus Recreation buildings, contact appropriate personnel for troubleshooting issues, and provide participants of the facility with information on all program areas or direct them to the appropriate areas.
* Greet and check for proper identification of all guests via Fusion facility management software.
* Answer telephones, issue equipment, complete routine building checks, and enforce facility usage guidelines and procedures.
* Assist in safety, security, and risk management protocol for facilities. Assist in event set up and tear down.
* Spot clean facility/fitness equipment as needed and put away any equipment left out by guests.
* Perform scheduled room checks and counts.
* Attend staff meetings, and maintain professionalism at all times, either while assisting members or attending to other work tasks.
* Will provide backup to facility access staff when necessary. Individuals will also provide coverage when needed for special events that go beyond normal operation hours.
Facility Attendants must be a student at Penn State University and possess the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal skills. Must be a team player, willing to cover or trade shifts when necessary. Ability to recognize and identify unruly patrons or unsafe behaviors. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends as necessary. CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds with or without accommodation.
Facility Attendants will be required to attend training in August during Welcome Week, which may be in person or virtual.

The Department of Recreation and Parks' mission is to enrich the lives of the residents of Santa Maria through quality recreation programs and services; and to provide safe and well-maintained facilities and parks, while anticipating the changing needs of the community. The department operates 234 acres of developed parkland in 28 neighborhood and community parks, part of the 1,774-acre Los Flores Ranch Park property, the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, and other community centers. The department provides programs in aquatics, youth and adult sports. It also manages the City's Urban Forest Program.
DUTIES
THE POSITION
These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. Building Attendants may be responsible for:
Performing general cleaning and light custodial functions in the upkeep of assigned areas in City building.
Cleaning restrooms; refilling soap and paper dispensers; emptying and cleaning waste containers regularly.
Locking and unlocking doors to ensure security of buildings and related areas; activating/deactivating alarms.
Checking for and reporting fire and safety hazards; reporting graffiti.

Job Summary

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES ASSIGNED:
Performs work which includes structural repair or remodeling in the maintenance, alteration and construction of buildings, facilities, equipment, including gas and electrical, plumbing, partitions, forms, cabinets, countertops, floors, roofs, doors, ceilings, windows, etc.
The Carpenter is responsible for having overall knowledge of all trades and capable of performing their basic duties.
Assist with the planning, estimation, coordination, and evaluating the construction, renovation, repair, and maintenance of carpenter related assignments.
Knowledge of residential/commercial construction and remodeling, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, and safety.
Ability to coordinate with the project team and communicate with the Building Services Supervisor
Ability to lead team members in the performance of assignments and monitor assigned subcontractors
Skill in interpreting complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes
Provides recommendation for types of construction, materials and finishes on assignments.
Knowledge of advanced carpentry methods and techniques; precision carpentry equipment; and advanced shop mathematics providing the ability to effectively plan, and design complex projects
Assist in problem solving which include time allocation, project prioritization, labor distribution, material quantity changes or substitutions and calculate potential changes to schedule.
Assesses building conditions and performs demolition work for renovations and remodels.
Assist in the development of work methods, procedures, and standards to assures that maintenance activities are in compliance with all laws, regulations, policies and safety standards.
Performs installation of drywall, mud, tape, smooth wall, texture and performs quality repairs.
Ability to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimension, and quality appearance.
Performs building renovations and modifications to existing structures such as office space additions, room modifications, new venue installations, etc.
Capable of painting interior and exterior surfaces, wall covering installation and repairs
Repair and installs flooring including carpet, VCT tile, plank flooring, ceramic or similar tile, epoxy, etc.
Experience installing interior/ exterior doors, cabinets, countertops, kitchen accessories, and bathroom accessories.
Installation of modular structures, block and level concrete foundation, decks, porches, ramps trusses, sheathing and roofing
Skilled in using, setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of power woodworking equipment and hand tools.
Works safely always by using protective equipment, following all safety precautions, and keeping work area organized.
Coordinate work with Building Services Supervisor and team members towards the successful completion of assignments.
Review work in progress and assure quality and adherence to expected standards and policies.
Review new work requests, confirm assignment details, and determine appropriate action for completion.
Develop appropriate work plans by analyzing tasks, determining resources required, estimate cost of labor, materials, tools, and equipment
Request, order, and purchase supplies and materials for projects and demand work orders

Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure tools and equipment run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently

Mentor and assist in training Building Services Technicians

QUALIFICATIONS:
10 years' experience in commercial/residential remodeling, renovation, general construction in carpentry and finish work.
Demonstrated knowledge of building systems (building envelope, structural, plumbing, electrical, and heating/ventilation) necessary to coordinate routine repair and maintenance projects and to evaluate the work of contractors, vendors, and GCCR skilled trades technicians
Leadership skills sufficient to develop a cohesive, motivated, and effective facilities team
Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and communicate GCCR correspondence, training materials, policies, and procedures
Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects under the pressure of competing deadlines
Knowledge in researching and purchasing maintenance and construction materials and services
Discretion necessary to work effectively with various entities and individuals in a complex organizational environment
Must have excellent problem-solving skills offering solutions in challenging circumstances
Must be a Self-Starter, highly disciplined & reliable
Must be detail oriented providing quality finished products
Must be flexible able to seek alternative methods for success
Must possess a strong work ethic and willing to be accountable for assignments
Must obtain certifications in boom, scissor, and forklift operation. (Training provided by GCCR)
Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California
